Why choose PACT?
If you’d like to adopt, you can choose to do this through your local authority, a regional adoption agency, or a voluntary adoption agency, like PACT.
Here are some of the reasons why we think adopting with PACT is a great choice:
- PACT is a long-standing, established charity and has been building and strengthening families since 1911. We have a long history of providing adoption services and specialist adoption support for life.
- As an independent adoption charity, PACT has been rated outstanding by Ofsted three times in a row in 2014, 2017 and 2023.
- PACT has a stable and committed workforce, with a passion to support families and a desire to deliver the highest quality services.
- Last year, PACT found loving and permanent homes for 78 children. See the impact of our services.
What is a voluntary adoption agency?
Voluntary adoption agencies (VAAs) are independent, not-for-profit organisations which are smaller than most statutory agencies and offer a personalised service to adopters from all backgrounds.
VAAs work in partnership with local authorities and regional adoption agencies across the whole of the UK to find families for children in care who are unable to stay with their birth relatives. To learn more about VAAs, read our blog here.
We are always looking for more people to consider becoming parents through adoption. To find out if you are eligible to adopt, take our short online quiz.
What support does PACT offer?
As a charity, PACT fundraises to provide enhanced adoption support services:
- Our online Children And Trauma Community Hub including one-to-one webchat with other adopters, eLearning and an adopter forum
- Experienced adoptive parents in our adopter champions team
- Support from therapeutically-trained social workers in our strengthening families team
- Our specialist therapeutic support services FACTS
- Specialist education support for children, parents and schools
- Extensive adoption training courses and workshops
PACT runs adoption events through the year where adopters can meet other PACT families. The most popular of these are Family Fun Days, held in Brighton, London and the Thames Valley, and our online adopter support evenings with a different monthly theme.
PACT’s family finding team works in partnership with adoption agencies around the country to find families for children in care who cannot remain with their birth family.

We’ve had a smooth journey with PACT and we’re forever grateful for [our social worker]. She’s been brilliant, and the whole PACT team have been wonderful.

The social worker I was assigned to was very good. I felt that she understood where I was coming from and I was able to talk through issues without feeling there was any judgment formed against me.

PACT has been on hand at every stage to help with any query we had. Our social worker responded quickly to all of our emails, and even when things were tricky they were proactively checking in with us. Even now that the Adoption Order has been granted we are still able to contact them for help and support, which is tremendously reassuring for the future.

One of our key priorities was that there would be support longer term if we needed it and we were really impressed with PACT’s training and support events, as well as their dedicated therapeutic social workers who would be available for support after our child came home.

I really feel that PACT prepared us brilliantly for the transition and the early days. We will always be learning but I come back to things from training every day!

I felt I was well equipped and informed at each part of the journey and the training days were interesting and enlightening.
